5. Who we share it with
We share personal information with trusted service providers who help us run Vellane, and only as far as they need it:
- Shopify, which hosts our website and forms
- Our email service provider, which sends our emails and newsletters
- Professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, where necessary
Where these providers act on our behalf, they may use your information only on our instructions and must keep it secure. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to a buyer or successor if our business is sold or restructured.
Shopify may also use some information about your interactions with our website for its own purposes, such as fraud prevention, security and improving its services. Where it does, Shopify is responsible for that use. You can find out more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and exercise your rights through the Shopify Privacy Portal.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Shopify, may process personal information outside the UK, for example in Canada, the United States or the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep it
- Interest sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details, and in any case no longer than 3 years after you last engaged with us (for example, by replying to us, clicking a link in one of our emails or updating your preferences). Our own emails to you do not restart this period. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a suppression list so that we do not contact you again.
- Corporate enquiries: up to 3 years after your last enquiry or correspondence with us, unless they become an ongoing business relationship.
- Records we must keep by law, such as invoices and accounting records: 6 years.
When we no longer need your information, we delete it securely.
8. Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary for the website to work. We use analytics or marketing cookies only if you consent, which you can give through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. If you do, we will stop sending you marketing emails.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@vellanechocolate.com. We will respond within one month.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
